You will need a provisional driving licence, you cannot go on the road without one.
You may apply for your provisional car licence up to 3 months before your 17th birthday
(however it would not be valid until you are 17 years old).

The DVLA (Driver Vehicle Licence Authority) is the place where you apply for a licence.
A form can be obtained from your local post office or
by contacting the DVLA direct on 0870 240 0009 or go online to the DVLA site.

Book Your Lessons Now

You must be able to clearly read a number plate at a distance
of 20.5 metres or 67 feet (with glasses or contact lenses if normally worn)
Your instructor will ask you to do this before lessons commence.

Once you have a provisional driving licence you may start driving lessons.
 You do not have to pass the theory and hazard perception test before you drive the car.
However, it is a good idea to combine the theory with driving in the early stages.
Driving lessons will help you understand and remember the theory and hazard perception.
